Friday, 20 March, was the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. Each class spent part of their day discussing what bullying is and how to prevent it. The students learnt that Bullying is an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that causes physical and/or psychological harm. Bullying can happen in person or online, and it can be obvious or hidden. Online bullying refers to bullying through information and communication technologies (ICT), e.g. the internet or mobile devices. As our students spend more time using ICT for learning and socialising, it is important that they know how to keep themselves safe online. At school we address cybersafety as part of our health curriculum. There are many resources available to help you address cybersafety at home. The Cybersmart and Think U Know websites have an excellent variety of activities and resources. With the Take a Stand Together app students can: · Watch short animated stories about bullying and choose what to do from a range of responses. · Read bullying facts and advice for different types of bullying situations. · Create their own avatar and choose a positive anti-bullying message so they can take a stand against bullying. |
